Horror meets comedy this weekend...!!!
So I got a chance to watch "Go Goa Gone" with my office mates on Friday morning & I must say I was not too sure how it would be.I had seen its theatrical trailer earlier and I was amazed by the mix of comedy with the subject of "ZOMBIES".
Its not the 1st time that this has happened though. The subject of "horror" has been presented with a dash of humor,a lot of times in the past as well.
Hollywood has been always ahead in this league of "Comedy Horror" where they have been experimental. Some of the movies I vaguely remember are Evil Dead 2( the funny evil hand sequence),Evil Dead 3/Army Of Darkness(not very impressive..),Fido,Repossessed,Shaun Of The Dead(British),etc. The Wayan Brothers were the ones who continued the legacy of spoof movies where they merged the story of a few successful horror movies in to one and made the hilarious "Scary Movie" series.
We had our own Horror Comedy movies as well in Bollywood but very few. I can easily count them on my fingers. "Bhoot Bungla(1965)" & "Bhaago Bhoot aaya(1985)" are the 2 movies I could remember from the good old days of Bollywood. So now almost 15-16 years later, Saif Ali Khan decided to make "Go Goa Gone" which is a horror movie with lot of comedy added to it. It is however inspired(just a little bit, here n there) from the British comedy "Shaun of the dead(2004)" but is most certainly desi & the performances by the actors in the film are way ahead of the mark of average.
The story of the film circles around 3 main characters played by Kunal Khemu, Vir Das & Anand Tiwari. Although these three have managed to deliver great comedy by their super performances & crazy dialogues delivery, the highlight of the movie however is none other than
Saif Ali Khan(like never seen before). He has played this Russian mafia guy,"Boris" who is originally from India. The director Duo,Krishna DK & Raj Nidimoru has done full justice to the script & one can expect a sequel to the movie as well.
Movie has catchy back ground music & not to forget some unique songs(khooni monday & babaji ki booti) as per the situations in the film delivered by Sachin-Jigar.
Hope to see more experimental movies coming our way as Bollywood, after completing 100 glorious years of delivering entertainment, has started accepting changes. Its no longer the same old
3 hour movie with 8 songs format anymore. It has adopted the changes and has arrived in its new avatar.
So lets see what's more to come this year as Bollywood has a lot of new movies lined up with some fresh stories.
Before I sign off, if you guys have no plans this weekend then go watch "Go Goa Gone".
Peace out
